Literature Text

Am I worth the betrayal?
Am I worth the denial?
Am I worth the tears and sweat of blood?

Am I worth the whip lashing Your back?
Am I worth the mockery, the laughs?
Am I worth the thorns smashed into Your head?

Am I worth the massive wooden cross?
Am I worth the blood that You've lost?
Am I worth each exhausting step to the hill?

Am I worth the humiliation?
Am I worth the suffocation?

Am I worth Judas's kiss?
Am I worth the nail hammered into Your wrist?

Am I worth Your gasping breaths?
Am I worth…
…Your death?

Am I worth all this excruciating pain?
No…not even fathomably close.
But even so, that is why You came.

To take my place.
I wrote this immediately after seeing a play depicting Jesus's Passion and Death at the church near my school. It was soooooo intense and moving. Wow. People were crying all over the place.
And for a visual person like me, I really needed something like this real-life depiction of His Passion to help me bring more meaning to my experience during Lent.

It was so real, and so, so saddening to watch. And I couldn't help thinking, "I really did this to Him."
So I will try to remember that from now on.

God bless you guys! Hope God touched you in some way through this!

Thank you for sharing this. For anyone reading this, The Passion of the Christ is a great movie to see during Lent, especially on Good Friday, in order to better appreciate the intensity of Jesus' suffering (though I will say, due to its graphic violence, it is not for the fainthearted).
